People with a passion

The project goes nowhere without the community. The River Kent is lucky to have such a diverse and engaged community built up around it, and we know the river matters to you and your lives in very important and very different ways. We know communities want to be involved in what is going on around them and we want to include everyone to help shape the future of our river.

Land Managers

The project is able to help land managers by direct works such as fencing, tree planting and erosion control, or by offering advice on grant schemes available that work for the river and you. Whether you’re interested in what we might be able to accomplish on your land to benefit the watercourse and protect your productive land at the same time, or would like help navigating the intricacies of land-management agreements, we are here to help.

Your land doesn’t have to be directly on the main River Kent – we’re looking at the tributaries, too, and a whole catchment-based approach, so get in touch if you would like to know more about what we can do for you.

Volunteers

We are always looking for volunteers to get involved with our project. Whether it’s a day or two of your time you can give to help get some trees planted, for example, or you are a student looking for a placement, we would like to hear from you. We have lots of volunteering options available, so there’s sure to be some way to pitch in!

Schools

We are passionate about engaging with local schools and helping spread the word about the fantastic wildlife and ecological benefits the River Kent has, and right on your doorstep! The project is facilitating school outreach work to help bring nature to the classroom and any schools in the area are invited to get in touch with us to see how we could work together. Let's get those young minds riveted by rivers!

Citizen Science

The project is exploring ways that anyone and everyone can contribute to meaningful and productive ecological work – if you do, you are a Citizen Scientist.

You may have heard of the Great British Bird Watch, or Star Count, or the National Plant Monitoring Survey? It’s these sorts of projects that accumulate a wealth of data that organisations just couldn’t gather without all the people who give up their time to contribute.

There are a range of freshwater Citizen Science projects that you can get involved in. Just give us a shout to see what might suit!
